My guinea pig was Isaac. While everyone was coloring at the feeding table this morning, I gave him a sucker and got to work. I expected him to fight me, but he was actually surprisingly tolerant of my fumbling attempts to trim his hair:
"Dad, are you really gonna let her do this to me?" |
Sadly, I did not work fast enough, and he got fed up with me before I felt like I was done (does a perfectionist ever feel like her work is done?). Still, it's not the worst hack job I ever saw:
Jude is up next, but I think I might try finding some online tutorials before I pick up the scissors again. Some days I wish I'd gotten a degree in early childhood education; today I wish I'd gone to beauty school!
Wow, I'm impressed! Isaac's hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome...I'm just glad I have two girls...a bit easier than boys I think!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! The best investiment I made cutting my guys hair, after refusing to pay $20 per child per sessions, was the hair cutting apron for the kids! No more hair in their clothes!
ReplyDeleteKendra, I have a cape, but Isaac doesn't like it. It's easier to pop him in the bath right after than to struggle with the cape while cutting his hair. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my tip for you: get a babysitter and sit in on a kids salon for an hour or two to WATCH how they do it. I'm sure you'd learn a lot!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it looks great and I even cut hair on occasion. :)
Good job, especially for your first haircut and ESPECIALLY on a toddler.
Bethany, the girl who usually cuts their hair comes to the house and I have watched her several times. But it's SO different when you are doing it yourself, as I'm sure you know. I think I just need some practice (and a few tips on how to do the front ... right now I have no idea!). :)
ReplyDeleteInstead of using scissors have you thought about getting a trimmer, they run between $15-50. Ours has many attachments and i cut both my husbands and my sons hair with it. I looked at your pictures and you should be able to keep it pretty close to that length with the longest attachment(a #5-6). With my son i use a longer attachement on the top then a slightly shorter one on sides/back. Then use the beard trimmer to go around the ears and on the neck for a clean no hair line. Once in awhile i need scissors to trim a couple of hairs i miss but its rare. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteErin: The girl who used to cut the boys' hair tried to use a trimmer, and the noise scared them. I have heard that there are some quieter trimmers, though ... I need to research them because you're right that using a trimmer would make things so much easier (and safer)!
