Drummer boy ... or girl?

After recovering at home for a week, I went back to work on Monday. That morning, as I was walking back to my desk from the copy room, I felt one of the babies move! The sensation was like a very light *thump* from the inside, as if someone had hit a drumskin (my uterus) with a padded drumstick (a foot?). At first I thought the kicker was George (Baby C), but based on the babies' positions on the ultrasound I had yesterday, I am now convinced it was Ringo (Baby D). Quite appropriate, no?

Despite my heightened awareness, I didn't feel any more movement until last night. This time I felt less distinct but more numerous little taps; it kind of felt like little bubbles were popping all across the top of my belly. (And no, I did not have beans for dinner!!) People keep reminding me that I'll soon grow annoyed and uncomfortable with all the gymnastics in my belly, but I am blissfully refusing to let anything lessen the thrill of feeling my babies move for the first time.

Something else I'm getting more excited about is finding out how many of my little drummers are boys and how many are girls. I am not alone in this: "Do you know yet what you're having?" is by far the number-one question I get these days. In fact, interest is so high that a colleague of mine even suggested that I start an office pool! Although I don't plan on doing that, I'd love for people to submit their guesses in the "What's in My Belly?" poll (at right). The nurse says that we should be able to find out what we're having in another 3 to 4 more weeks.

And now for yesterday's 14-week ultrasound pics. It's a good thing that we weren't trying to see the sexes this time since all but one (Baby A, aka John) kept their backs turned to the camera:

  1. I love, Love, LOVE that you've named your babies after the four Beatles. Although, if you do end up with some girl in the mix, I don't recommend naming her Ringo. . .or George. . .hmm, or Paul. . .or John, for that matter. Do you know the names of the Spice Girls? (shudder)

  2. Don't let anyone fuss about how you will grow tired of the thumping. Even when they are so strong it really hurts it's a wonderful feeling of life. Everyone told me I was just feeling gas bubbles with Soph at the beginning but Not so much! She earned the nick name Thumper really fast! Wesley loved to jazzercise from 2-3 am though and that was fun too!

  3. I never got tired of feeling them move. In fact, that is the one thing about being pregnant that I miss. Enjoy it!

  4. Are you going with the Beatles' names for permanant or are they the names of your fetus's like my baby "Viper"?
I'm impressed you felt more movement after only one day. I didn't feel any second movement for a week and a day. Now I feel him or her pretty regularly. Actually, Josh got to feel it for the first time last night! I keep making him try and Viper will move but he won't feel it. Last night he was kicking a lot harder so while we were laying in bed I made him just put his hand there while we were reading and all of a sudden Josh said, "I felt THAT!" It was fun. Maybe you get to feel each one for the first time and so you'll feel them more often?

  5. Maybe I didn't explain this very well in my post, but I felt the first kick on Monday and didn't feel anything again until Friday. And then I haven't felt anything since then. None of the movements were strong enough for anyone but me to know about ... that's so cool that Josh already got to feel Viper kick!

Oh, and the Beatles names are just for fun and just for now, until we know what we're having and decide on *real* names. ;)

  8. I agree with the other mommies...feeling the baby move is the only thing I miss about being pregnant. Loved it, loved it, loved it. And I LOVE your belly!!!! It's so beautiful, carrying all those Thompson's in there.
